UnivCon 2008 Announces Hosts for The National Paranormal Conference

University Park, Pa. Univ-Con is one of the largest paranormal conferences in the country. It's goal is to push education and research in to the supernatural.

State College, Pa. July 22, 2008 -- With UNIV-CON less than two months away, the conference committee is pleased to announce the Grand Hosts for 2008: Dianna Avena and Chad Calek.

Chad Calek is the host of "American Ghost Hunter" and is also involved in the upcoming Steven Spielberg supernatural project, "Rising," due out later this year. A filmmaker from Iowa, Calek gained recognition after releasing a series of web-documentaries known as TerrorNormal. His unique filmmaking style, along with his raw and honest passion for the unexplained earned him an online fan base.

"Chad is perfect for UNIV-CON because he represents the passion and energy that we feel this community needs," said UNIV-CON Founder Ryan Buell. "And he's funny as hell."

Partnering with Calek is Dianna Avena, is a widely respected woman within the paranormal community. She and her husband founded the group, Roswell Paranormal and own Roswell Ghost Tours, both based out of Georgia. She is also the co-host for "After Twilight Radio."

"Dianna is a beautiful and energetic woman with integrity," said 2008 UNIV-CON Manager Topher Young. "We couldn't be more thrilled to have Mrs. Avena be a part of UNIV-CON."

Calek and Avena will formally open and close the conference, as well as introduce grand speakers. They have the honor and responsibility of representing the goals and mission statement of UNIV-CON. And lastly, they will entertain the eager attendees at various functions throughout the four-day weekend.

UNIV-CON has enjoyed consistent growth over the past six years. It is now one of the largest gatherings for paranormal investigators in the country, and seeks to further education and research within the paranormal. This year, UNIV-CON is offering an ambitious and diverse lineup of content, including research committees, a film festival, distinguished lectures, dozens of workshops, a Masquerade Ball, "Paranormal State: The Experience," a touring Museum and more!

This year's current lineup of speakers include: the cast of "Paranormal State;" skeptic Dr. Michael Shermer; Joshua Gates of "Destination Truth;" Bill Birnes of History Channel's "UFO Hunters;" Chip Coffey of "Psychic Kids;" Lorraine Warren, The Ghost Diva's, Loyd Auerbach, Michelle Belanger, Konstantinos, Chris Moon; Patrick Burns of "Haunting Evidence;" and the Rhine Research Center.

UNIV-CON will also be offering research grants and scholarships for researchers across the country. Independent filmmakers will have the chance to earn a production development deal with an Emmy award-winning company.
