The Cartwright Law Firm San Francisco CA Personal Injury Firm Settles $555000 Wrongful Death Lawsuit with City of San Francis



The Cartwright Law Firm recently settled a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the family of an 89-year old man who was killed after being run-over by a MUNI bus in San Francisco after his coat became stuck in the in the rear doors as he exited the bus. The driver was allegedly not paying attention when he closed the doors and drove away. The man died from his injuries after spending 10 days in the hospital. The Cartwright Law Firm represented the man's two adult daughters (ages 60 and 61) in a lawsuit against the City of San Francisco. The City waived its claim for the associated medical bills, as he was seen at SF General Hospital. After a two month negotiation, the case was settled for $555,000. The case was filed in San Francisco Superior Court (case # 468-840).

"The fact that our legal system does not allow us to make a claim for pain and suffering on behalf of the decedent in a wrongful death case coupled with the fact there was no lost income or financial support made agreeing on a dollar figure extremely difficult." "We were solely left negotiating a value for the loss of the relationship our clients had with their elderly father," added Matthew Quinlan.
