* Home Remedy #2: Coat your hair heavily with mayonnaise and leave on your scalp for over 4 hours. Try putting a shower cap on top of your hair and letting it set for hours to ensure that the lice are dead.

This home remedy can smother lice, but it will not kill nits, it will not prevent nits from hatching or prevent lice from re-infesting your head. This is not harmful, but it can be very messy and is a waste of time.
Home Remedy #3: Coat hair thoroughly with olive oil then leave it on for several hours.
Our Review: Some validity however head lice can easily re-infest as soon as you have removed the olive oil.
