Debt Relief Advocates ONE Campaign Global Healing Initiative Make a Difference at G8 Summit



After the G8 Summit reached its end, feelings were mixed on how much was actually achieved. "It was great to see that events like LIVE8 and the work of the http://www.globalhealing.net [ONE Campaign __title__ Live8] could actually get world leaders to begin to listen, but there is still much left to do, particularly in the area of providing more http://www.globalhealing.net [debt relief __title__ fight AIDS] and in creating more fair and just trade policies for Africa," said David Randle, delegate for the ONE Campaign to the http://www.globalhealing.net [G8 Summit] and Global Healing Initiative Co-Facilitator. "In the long run, only trade policies rooted in justice will allow Africa to become more self-sustaining."

According to Randle, the http://www.globalhealing.net [debt relief __title__ ONE campaign] and additional aid the countries attending the G8 Summit have agreed to provide means:

* Deaths from Malaria can be cut in half by 2010

* Any country with a credible plan for education will have the funding for it

* Nine million people will now have access to anti-HIV drugs that did not before.

"It is only time that will decide whether this summit is historic or not," said Sir Bob Geldof, creator of Live8. "What is true is that never before have so many people forced a change in policy onto the global agenda. We are beginning to see the lives of the poor of Africa determined not by charity but by justice."

Groups like the http://www.globalhealing.net [ONE Campaign], the National Council of Churches, the United Religions Initiative, the Alliance for New Humanity, and the Global Healing Initiative will be needed to make sure that the long walk to justice, through http://www.globalhealing.net [debt relief __title__ live8], fair trade policies, and the fight against AIDS, continues to move forward beyond the G8 Summit.
