Marysville California Sponsors Operation SoapBox



Operation SoapBox needs YOU. The community of Yuba and Sutter Counties has gotten together to coordinate a community wide relief effort to help the victims of Hurricane katrina. Spearheaded by a local Pastor's Wife. The goal is to collect donations from everyone who wants to give. As September 17, draws near, the community gears up to donate more than just monetary gifts. They've been asked to donate personal care items for the evacuees. Everything from soaps and toiletries to blankets, clean clothing, diapers of all sizes and toilet paper.

The event will take place at Washington Square Park in Marysville, between the hours of 10 - 4 p.m.

Several community members have volunteered their time, but many more are needed. "We are prepared for a really huge turn out from our community members" says Cleo Allen. We're hoping that one of our local news stations will come out and cover the community effort. Cleo Allen say's that she "knows how it feels to be an evacuee of a flooding due to the breaking away of a levee". She was involved in the Northern California flood of 1986. Displaced from her home and separated from her parents for several days. "We are a caring and giving community and we just had to do something big to help the many victims of Hurricane Katrina. They still have alot to prepare for this week, before the day of the Relief Effort, but feel really good about how the community is responding to the call for help.

People are already starting to donate the items we've asked for and more keeps coming every day. The only thing that we are having a problem with right now is getting someone to donate a truck and driver to take all the donated items, to the evacuees. We would like to hear from anyone who is willing to donate a driver and truck to the relief effort of Operation Soap Box. "We've just got to get these donations into the hands of the evacuees", says Cleo Allen.
