James Cochran, founder of Business Insurance Now, an online provider of property and business liability insurance (http://www.businessinsurancenow.com/) for office and professional groups, recently attended the 21st Annual Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) International Conference, to cultivate relationships with leading carriers from around the world, gain industry knowledge, and discover new products, technologies and innovations in professional liability insurance.
The theme of the conference, which was held Nov. 5 - 7 in San Francisco, was Prospects for the Future: Golden Opportunities or Fool'ss Gold and featured sessions that examined the
political, economic and regulatory issues facing the professional liability insurance (http://www.businessinsurancenow.com/professional_liability.aspx) industry. Sixteen educational sessions also explored
key areas, including management liability, traditional professionals, new frontiers and other issues concerning general liability insurance.
The PLUS conference is so important in helping businesses in the industry keep up to date on issues concerning professional liability insurance, Cochran said. One important trend
discussed at the conference is the shift several international insurance companies have made to focus on the small business and offer more customized business insurance products (http://www.businessinsurancenow.com/general-liability-insurance.aspx) and pricing. At Business Insurance Now we
make it a point to stay on top of these trends and continually seek out the products that provide the most optimal and cost-effective coverage.
Cochran also mentioned that the industry will take another significant turn by making professional liability insurance products more accessible to the small business owner. Previously,
this type of coverage, which is critical to any business, was designed for larger firms, making even the least expensive options beyond the means of the small firms or those serving as
independent contractors.
PLUS, a nonprofit founded in 1986 by industry professionals, is recognized as a primary source of professional liability educational programs and seminars. Currently, the society
represents more than 1,000 companies active in the professional liability industry.
