It was with a broken heart that tens of thousands left the province of Avellino during the massive migration from 1880 to 1920 and again in the 's50s. They kept an invisible bond, a root
with the Motherland, while working hard for a new future in the Land of Hope. Their heart torn between past and future
The series Radici d'sIrpinia (Roots of Irpina), which the Comunità Montana Terminio Cervialto has been proposing over the past few years, is homage to its people. Capitalizing on the
roots of their hearts, Avellino Province comes back to its people, to heal the separation, but also to get an opportunity to highlight today'ss Irpinia: a stubborn and determined land
that was able to hold its head high and embrace the challenge of the new times.
The purpose of this project is to launch Terminio Cervialto territory through its best products and suggestive artistic expressions: Avellino province is in fact becoming a great tourist
destination for those who love nature, traditions, history, culture, relaxation, and the well being that comes with the Italian lifestyle.
The opening of Roots of Irpinia will be held at the New York Bureau of the Campania Region, with a presentation to a special audience of tour operators, buyers and press. Remarks by
Nicola Di Iorio, president of Comunità Montana Terminio Cervialto; Riccardo Strano, Director of the Italian Government Tourist Board North America; Santino Barile, Chairman of the
Provence of Avellino Tourism Board, and Eugenio Salvatore, Tourism Councilman of Avellino Province. Also attending there will be a delegation of the Federazione delle Associazioni
Campane. In display, delightful flavors of Irpinia: from the black truffle to the Bagnolese sheep'ss milk cheese, from the chestnuts of Montella to the local cured meats, topped off with
the king of the table, Taurasi docg wine, all masterfully prepared to reveal the delicacies of Irpinia and Terminio Cervialto. Locally produced specialty foods, priceless flavors, are
after all the best ambassadors of the Made in Italy, able to lure the American public to explore a territory
The second appointment will be on April 29 at the prestigious Carnegie Hall: the concert by Duo Alban (Alberto Barletta, flute and Antonella De Vinco, piano) will propose a repertoire of
Italian arias, with special attention to the musical heritage of the Campania Region. The focus will be on Enrico Morricone'ss scores, composed for Sergio Leone, a director from Irpinia
who created the Spaghetti Western , and of Avellinese composer Mario Cesa, author of international importance. The concert isunder the auspices of the Italian Cultural Institute of New
York and the international musical association Arthur Toscanini.
To conclude the Roots of Irpinia series, a special gathering on Monday, April 30, 2007 in Norristown (PA), with a meeting between visiting officials and the local Irpinian community of
Norristown, a few miles from Philadelphia, home to many generations of immigrants from Montella (Av). A moving journey in memory of the many emigrants to the United States who still have
solid ties in their never-forgotten land of origin. It was also an opportunity to describe the new Irpinia, which has elevated itself to a new and modern standard and has achieved
significant economic growth and development. An Irpinia that nurtures the relationship with its people abroad who have brought praise and honor to Italy and to the Province of
Avellino.
