Our guests can also choose from our regular daily activities like hiking, rafting, biking, fishing, nature walks, and horseback riding in addition to their preferred event.
The landscape itself helps to shape the summer activities and events on the calendar at Gateway Canyons Resort. The weekend of June 20, the resort will host the first annual Western
Colorado Vintage Motorcycle Association rally to raise funds for asthma education in the local school district. Special lodging rates are available for vintage motorcycle (http://www.gatewaycanyons.com/calendar.phpcalview=event's38;event_id=298's38;prevview=month's38;year=2009's38;month=06's38;day=20)
owners who will be attending; judging of the vintage motorcycles on display begins at 11:00 a.m., and there will be food, movies, music and a swap meet going on all day. In support of the
cause, a percentage of proceeds from admissions that day to the Gateway Auto museum will be donated to asthma education. This is the same time frame for the Colorado HOG Rally, and
Gateway Canyons Resort is a stop on a Level 3 ride for Harley-Davidson owners through Gateway Canyons.
Fourth of July (http://www.gatewaycanyons.com/calendar.phpcalview=event's38;event_id=266's38;prevview=month's38;year=2009's38;month=7's38;day=5)
falls on a Saturday this year, and Gateway Canyons Resort will have a weekend of festivities that includes, a barbeque, outdoor movies, fireworks, and a special World War II military
display at the Gateway Auto Museum. The third event in the Gateway Canyons Race Series kicks off at 7:00 a.m. Saturday for the half marathon race and at 7:05 a.m. for the 5K run. The half
marathon route is on dirt trails except for the last half mile on pavement, and includes a knee to waist-deep river crossing through the Dolores at the halfway mark.
Gateway Canyons Resort also has an ongoing summer lecture series. The two opening lectures for Third Thursdays are 'sCalamity Camp and Uranium Mining on the Uncompahgre's with Zebulon
Miracle, Curator of The Museum of The West in Grand Junction, on June 18, and The Geology of Gateway with Jeff Brame on July 16. Lectures are combined with dinner for a per person price,
and they begin at 6:30 p.m.
The Second Annual Women'ss Wellness (http://www.gatewaycanyons.com/calendar.phpcalview=event's38;event_id=308's38;prevview=month's38;year=2009's38;month=7's38;day=27)
Weekend happens July 24-27. This is a special long weekend just for women to relax and rejuvenate with outdoor activities, spa treatments, and educational topics such as stress management
and healthy meal planning.
August 21-23, the Grand Mesa Jeep (http://www.gatewaycanyons.com/calendar.phpcalview=event's38;event_id=264's38;prevview=month's38;year=2009's38;month=8's38;day=23)
Club welcomes members and prospective members to join in the Off Road Rendezvous. This event offers off-roading adventures for all levels, including a run up the road to Pace Lake that
could include rock moving and some pick and shovel work to clear for passage. For those more interested in scenery and wildlife, a guide from the resort will lead a trip up John Brown
Canyon, through Sky Mesa Ranch and back via Cottonwood Canyon.
New to the event schedule this year is the first annual BBQ Blues (http://www.gatewaycanyons.com) event on August 29. There will be several
bands throughout the day and a BBQ competition. Proceeds will benefit Batten disease research. Participation can be for the day or with an overnight at the resort.
The drive to Gateway Canyons Resort, located well off the beaten path in the red rock canyons of western Colorado, can be a stand alone memory before the vacation begins. It is forty-five
miles on Colorado Scenic Highway 141 through lush valleys shadowed by tall cliffs and land forms. The Resort itself was built in the graceful, signature southwestern design, with 54
lodging units shaded by towering, old-growth cottonwood trees.
