What do Angelina Jolie Clint Eastwood and James Bond Have in Common Iceland

Iceland has always been popular with Hollywood directors for its unique beauty, favorable weather, and well-developed infrastructure. Now the producers will be just as happy, with a new 14 percent reimbursement incentive from the Icelandic government.

Over the past few years, Iceland has played host to film crews from Flags of our Fathers, Batman Begins, and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, among many others. These productions benefited from a refund on costs, but the Film in Iceland Agency, working with the Invest in Iceland Agency and the Icelandic government, is hoping that increasing the reimbursement to 14 percent for all expenses will generate even more interest for future movie productions.

But the rebate isn'st the only thing going for this small country in the Atlantic. Situated in the flight path from New York to London, it has a climate that is mild year-round. Its proximity to the Arctic Circle means that summers offer continuous shooting light and winters provide directors with a dark film noir atmosphere found nowhere else. Add the glaciers, volcanic mountains, and green valleys of the interior and you have a location scout'ss dream.

There are also a wide range of production companies operating in Iceland with experience doing everything from small television projects to multi-million dollar movies. The country has a completely developed infrastructure and hospitality industry, and is crossed by roads that connect very diverse locations within short distances.

The Film in Iceland Agency hosts an informative web site at filming in Iceland information PDF document.
