Rossana Jeran and Blurgirl Productions Deliver the Feature Film GODHEAD as a DIY Release
Two months after finishing her first feature film, Writer/Director Rossana Jeran -- http://www.blurgirl.com -- is both relieved and ready to get to work. When we were shooting and editing Godhead, nearly every day turned into night and it took over a year to get the film where it needed to be for release, says Jeran. Self distributing the movie will require the same level of commitment and effort.
Jeran is among a growing number of filmmakers who are opting for a DIY (Do It Yourself) release. Frustrated with distribution companies that are unwilling to take chances, the demand for content only growing and the vast potential audience the Internet provides, filmmakers are increasingly going it alone for their independent releases. For her part, Jeran recently released Godhead as a PPV (pay-per-view) digital download as well as on DVD. Each format can be purchased directly from the film'ss website, http://www.godheadthemovie.com . Telling the world about Godhead is Jeran'ss next challenge.
We'sre doing a lot of social networking, we'sre building a Myspace community -- http://www.myspace.com/godheadthemovie -- the trailer is on YouTube -- http://youtube.com/watchv=E8RsJHobjgQ -- and we'sre turning over every stone to let the world know Godhead is available and ready to see now.
Truly a unique cinematic experience, Godhead is driven by an experimental, fractured, narrative style utilizing cutting-edge visual effects. Jeran'ss brain-child, it began as a series of poetic vignettes and a rough story concept. But it needed a writer who could create the screenplay - and one who was familiar with the principles of alchemy, an underlying theme of the film. Jeran found her co-writer in David Niall Wilson - http://deep-bluze.livejournal.com .
A former president of the Horror Writer'ss Association, Wilson'ss pedigree was impressive, having scribed over a dozen novels and two collections, as well as being a one-time magazine editor.
Wilson describes his experience writing Godhead as both intense and amazing. Rossana and I wrote the screenplay in eight weeks, exchanging drafts via email every night. Funny thing is, I was on the East Coast, she was on the West Coast, and to this day, I'sve yet to meet her in person.
The film'ss storyline focuses on Zero and Magus, two friends torn apart by their own imaginations after finding access to another dimension through a small, glass amulet called a dragon tear. They live in a bleak, urban landscape that serves as a perfect backdrop to the surreal conflict that consumes them. From the alchemist in the apartment below them to the center of the blue glass lens that compels them, fantasy and reality blur as their rapt, emotional adventures become the center of their lives. Rich in symbolism, eroticism and raw emotion, the film moves more and more rapidly toward its stunning conclusion.
It is a project whose time has come, says Jeran. A fusion of entertainment and experience that today'ss audiences are hungry for.
Looking forward, Jeran and Wilson have their sites set on another feature. This time the story is Wilson'ss Milk, involving a young woman'ss obsession with absinthe and Samuel Taylor Coleridge'ss poetry. Though slightly more linear than Godhead, there is no doubt Jeran'ss creative vision will lead it into uncharted waters.
