Potential Investors Sought For Independent Film Little Chicago

The momentum continues to build as potential investors are sought out for the filming of the Independent film "Little Chicago". Due to the production company's critical schedule and the potential opportunity for Broome County, investors are aggressively being sought to advance the project locally. Scenes from the film have already been shot in the city of Bradford, Pennsylvania and Olean in New York. Screenwriter Carl Veno, an Olean native, says the movie "trailer," or preview, is finished.

The movie takes place in the 1920's during the Prohibition Era. It focuses on the prohibition era during the 1920's, looks at the then illegal trafficking of alcohol out of upstate New York and the organized crime behind it. Little Chicago is not in the state of Illinois. Its 75 miles from Niagara Falls, New York.

The intent of 'Little Chicago' is to tell a story that has yet to be told: the impact of Prohibition on small town America. The idea for the movie came from a chapter in Veno's book, Invisible Ink, published in 2005. Veno has 25 years of journalistic experience. He decided to do the writing on 'Little Chicago' because Hollywood writers were too expensive. Veno feels the movie will generate a lot of publicity for Olean and Bradford, saying he's "excited" at the prospect.

Filming should start sometime in March, and should continue through mid-June. Some of shooting can take place before the main stars are signed to a contract, and later blended into the film. Filming locations will likely include Niagara Falls, Olean, Bradford, Kane, Pennsylvania, and possibly Broome County. The film makers say they are ready to transform parts of Binghamton into Little Chicago, taking artistic advantage of once busy sites that remain as hallmarks of a bygone era.

Actor Joey Vacchio, formerly of the "Sopranos", and film writer Carl Vino saw the movie "Little Chicago" playing out before their eyes when they recently visited some of Binghamton's signature sites.

The owner of the Chameleon Lounge in Endicott, Angelo Donowa, is helping promote the film. Associate Producer Angelo Donowa knew Binghamton had potential when he moved here sometime ago and that's why, he says, he brought his fellow film makers to scout the area.

While actual filming began in November, planning for the movie began much earlier in the year with the announcement that executive producer Carl Veno of Olean, N.Y., would be using Bradford and Olean as locations for the gangster flick.
