Minors Rape Inspires New Hindi Film

May 10, 2005 -- Aishwarya Chandra alias Subodh Tyagi who has been associated with stalwarts of meaningful Indian Cinema like late Khawaja Ahmad Abbas and Shyam Benegal is also the writer for "Marine Drive Police Chowky". He considers Shyam Benegal his mentor and guru.

The film intends to shed light on the socio-psychological aspect of such ghastly incidents, going deeper into the psyche of uniformed men. " It is a audio-visual study of the crime", says the director. The focus in the film is not on the cops, "Marine Drive Police Chowky" will attempt not to create a negative image of police in the eyes of viewers. "It could have been some one else", says Aishwarya Chandra "it is about a criminal mind and not about police".

Aishwarya Chandra, who has always been involved with films, based on true-life incidents is all charged up and geared to can the film in a month's time. His earlier films, which he directed were topical as well: "Aadhay Adhuray" (on male impotency) starring Kumar Sanu & Dr Asthana, "Bahu Maange Insaaf" (on the issue of dowry) with Sachin and Sadhna Singh. In fact, Late K A Abbas, before he passed away was to write and direct Chandra's first venture. "Jhansi Ki Rani se Indira Gandhi Tak".

Currently busy finalizing his star-cast for "Marine Drive Police Chowky", Aishwarya Chandra is not making this film to become a national hero or an overnight millionaire, "I want to move people's hearts, they should be aware.... I am a visual essayist and not a firebrand revolutionary, and I appeal to all, the men & women of this country, the social service organizations, the NGO's and the administration to support our efforts whole heartedly".

On his part Aishwarya Chandra wants to make his contribution, apart from making the hard hitting film on the theme of rape in "Marine Drive Police Chowky". He has declared that part of proceeds from the film will be donated to the victims of rape.
