19 Year Old Jake Sasseville to Produce African Feature Film
May 13, 2005 -- For Jake Sasseville, the 19 year old Maine-native and soon to be media mogul, his first year at college in New York City has been anything but normal. And this, his first summer after college, is just going to get stranger.
With the critically acclaimed reality-talk and variety series "The Edge" launching nationally, one might think Sasseville would already be tuckered out. Running to meetings, juggling tests and lectures in college, meeting executives and making high-stakes decisions on development opportunities are all part of Sasseville's daily grind in The Big Apple.
But that's not enough for this freshman. Africa is calling.
Sasseville has just signed on to Executive Produce a major motion picture for Los Angeles-based Writer and Director Brad Minnich. "Maasai" (www.maasaiproject.org) features the exotic Maasai tribe and uses the enchanting Eastern African landscape as its backdrop. The docudrama chronicles the life of a Maasai teenager transitioning from boy to adult hood while vying for the love of a princess. The film illustrates the complexities the Maasai experience as their culture is now threatened by international modernization. The film's aim is to captivate the audience visually while creating awareness of the Maasai and try to help preserve their way of life which is now on the verge of extinction after surviving for hundreds of years.
Brad Minnich has done extensive research with the Maasai tribe over the course of several yeas. Because of his unique ties with Maasai elder Kakuta Ole Maimai, Minnich and Sasseville's team will have unprecedented access to the otherwise forbidden Maasai land.
"I'm honored to have been asked to be apart of a beautiful story," Sasseville says "Brad [Minnich] is talented and driven and a wonderful creator to collaborate with."
Sasseville's main task is to secure the six-figure financing needed for the film to launch into production in July, 2005. His tasks will extend into managing a New York City based production staff as he flies back and forth between New York and Kenya to oversee production in the Fall.
All this, Sasseville says, as he enters his sophomore year of college at Marymount Manhattan College in New York. "I've juggled everything this year and managed to pull off A's and B's," mentions Sasseville. "It'll just be a matter of sleeping less on the plane and preparing for Communication Theory exams instead," he jokes.
The film is slated to be released sometime in the United States in late 2006 following an International Release.
