Houston Writers Team Up for Creative Venture
A novel by Houston novelist Diana L. Driver set in the steamy jungles of Guatemala will be the subject of a feature-length screenplay, under the terms of an option agreement inked last week between the writer and MSG Productions, a Houston independent film company.
The screenplay based on Ninth Lord of the Night, published last month by BookSurge Publishing, should be completed by the end of the year, according to Cash Anthony, president and senior partner at MSG.
"Diana and I went to Travis High School together in Austin," said Anthony, recalling that both women were active in theatre then. "I was thrilled when she wrote to me to say she was living in Houston and wanted to reconnect. Then when I read her novel - wow!"
Driver is the founder and president of The Final Twist, the Houston chapter of Sisters in Crime. A geophysicist by training, she is also a member of Mystery Writers of America and was a member of the Mentoring Committee of the Mystery Writers of America, Southwest Chapter.
Anthony plans to write the spec script herself for MSG. She is co-author of six murder mystery plays performed at Texas bed & breakfast establishments, written with MSG partner James R. Davis. A former stage actor and director, Anthony has also written, produced, and directed three short narrative films, all made in Houston with Texas cast and crew. Her feature-length screenplays include A Racing Heart and Taking Up Serpents, presently in development.
MSG Productions is a subsidiary of The Master Strategy Group, a creative consulting company established by the partners in 1989, when Anthony returned to creative pursuits after practicing law.
