Filmmaker Kathi Carey Returns to the Festival Circuit With Her Latest...

Kathi Carey has become known for her auteur film making style by writing, directing and acting in her projects. Her latest works have included serious themes like breast cancer and were accented with irony. Yet, her earliest film, Garage Sale, was a Terry Southern-style black comedy about an apartment house landlord who would murder his tenants when they fell behind in their rents and then sell off their possessions at his weekly garage sales. Life seems to have its own sense of humor when dealing with us and so that becomes a natural element in my films, says Kathi.

Kathi'ss current film, Worth, is inspired by a turn-of-the-century poem. This seemingly-simple film proves that you can'st judge a book by its cover. In just 7 minutes, this film explores many weighty themes. It'ss about class distinction and self-esteem. It'ss about peer pressure and judging others. It'ss about limiting oneself and putting limits on others. It'ss about regret, redemption, changing lives and changing ourselves. It'ss about the beauty that surrounds us on a daily basis and about overlooking the priceless based on appearances. Says Kathi, I like to give the audience something unexpected, something to think about long after the end credits have rolled.

The Anchorage International Film Festival will feature Worth on Sunday, December 7th at 3:15 p.m. at the Anchorage Museum and again on Saturday, December 13th at 8:45 p.m. at the Regal Fireweed Theatre. http://www.anchoragefilmfestival.org/2008/main.htm
