Linear Pictures Announces Formation of New Production Company that...

Linear Pictures founders Christopher Kemp Fredie, David Lisle Johnson and Saeid Esmaeilian created their production company with the intention of addressing social epidemics in Los Angeles.

Two of their projects that they are currently working on include In My Pocket and Kamakiri. Both of the subjects in these films deal with drug use and its prevalence in youth culture. The team is passionate enough about their scripts that not only has the team written their own scripts, but they are also producing and direct the films independently.

Linear Pictures is interested in keeping their film budgets low in order to extract the greatest amount of profits from their projects. According to the Hollywood Reporter, more and more films in the mid-budget range will most likely continue to be financed independently because the major film studios are reserving production budgets for making and marketing blockbuster films. Studios will rely on production companies such as Linear Pictures for smaller budget projects.

"The studios are being squeezed by their parents to leverage their capital more, and they want to earn distribution fees. They have these vast distribution outlets that they want to fill with product, and the way to do that is to bring in additional capital to finance a larger slate of pictures," comments a Hollywood Reporter contributor.

Independently financed films have a history of making millions, attracting large audiences and increasing profits for investors. For instance, Blair Witch Project production budget was 30,000 dollars; the film had box office revenues over 248 million dollars. Price Waterhouse Cooper claims that the combined worldwide filmed entertainment market will achieve sales of $118.9 billion in 2009.

Linear Pictures founders are a group of filmmakers in their late twenties who were inspired by projects with small budgets that were great films. Their goal is to create profitable quality films similar to the Blair Witch Project by focusing on a quality storyline and innovative cinematography. The company Linear Pictures has also chosen a unique identity among other productions companies by deciding to base their projects around a common theme of prevalent social issues in Los Angeles, California. Their launching projects In My Pocket and Kamikiri demonstrate their inner angst at an outside society that is plagued by drug abuse, mental breakdowns and an ever changing confused culture.
