Macleish Day and Marianne Page to Star in The Highwayman

Inferno Film Productions is pleased to announce the casting of Macleish Day and Marianne Page in the lead roles of its upcoming motion picture production, The Highwayman. The Highwayman screenplay is based on the classic poem by Alfred Noyes and tracks the poem very closely. Macleish will play Will Stiles, the son of a farmer who discovers that he is the grandson of a baronet who was betrayed and executed, causing his family to lose all their lands and titles. Seeking revenge on those responsible for his family's downfall, Will begins a secret double life as a highwayman. Marianne will play the love of Will's life, Bess, the innkeeper's daughter. The movie will also feature Trygve Lode as Lt. Cardwell, Christa Cannon as Lady Catherine, and Tom Place as Young Henry, with stunts and effects provided by Asgard Entertainment.

"Our Highwayman is a bit of a romance, a bit of an action movie and a bit of an old fashion ghost story," said producer Darlene Cypser. "Toss Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Star Wars and a bit of the kind of ghost stories told around camp fires into a blender, set it on 18th century England and mix well!"

"Macleish is able to use his extensive theatrical background in playing Will Stiles, who is a bit of a thespian himself, and who blinded by love and a desire for revenge rushes headlong into tragedy."

Boulder native Macleish Day is currently starring in Colorado Light Opera's production of How to Succeed at Business (Without Really Trying) at CU Boulder. Macleish is a graduate of the Interlochen Center for the Arts, and completed a Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theater from University of Northern Colorado in Greeley this year. He has had roles in a number of theatrical productions at UNC and with the CU Opera Company, The Little Theater of the Rockies, the Greeley Community Theater, and the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. He was featured as a dancer in An Air Force Christmas for PBS and done television commercials for the Colorado Lottery.

Marianne Page is currently studying theater at Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood. She has been featured in a number of Red Rocks productions and in the motion pictures 11:59 and Rear View Mirror. She was nominated for the Rocky Mountain Theatre Association Acting Competition this year.

"Bess is a character of contrasts," the producer said, "She is a young woman of her time. She is sweet, innocent, and obedient to her father. She expects to follow the men in her life. And yet she has a brain and some backbone, and she challenges them now and then. In the end she sacrifices herself for the man she loves. Marianne is able to bring out those contrasts in Bess. It is a romantic part and she brings an ethereal beauty to it. She reminds me of a very young Olivia Hussey."

Trygve Lode is best known for playing villains in movies: the evil scientist Therion in the martial arts action movie, Dragon and The Hawk, and the man turned monster in The Shadow Walkers, both of which were shot in Denver. In The Highwayman, Trygve plays Lt. Cardwell, a hard drinking womanizing infantry lieutenant who is charged with the task of hunting down the highwayman and disposing of him, a task which turns out to be more difficult than he bargained for.

Christa Cannon will play the young Catherine Stiles, Will Stile's grandmother, in flashbacks about the arrest and execution of his grandfather, Malcolm Stiles. In the same scenes Tom Place will play her son, Young Henry, Will's future father.

Christa has an extensive background in modeling in the US and theater in Europe. She also appeared in the Colorado feature film, Skills Like This. But Christa has an aristocratic look that fits well with the 18th century.

Eleven year old Tom Place has modeled for LL Bean and Lands End covers and print advertisements for Sports Authority and WinterKids. He was featured in Rocky Mountain News Spotlight section. He has done commercials for Perkins and for Stevenson Automotive and played Randolph in Bye Bye Birdie for the Spotlight Theater.

Members of Asgard Entertainment's stunt team, trained and directed by Mark Grove, will be playing the troop of redcoats sent to dispatch the highwayman. They will engage the highwayman in some thrilling fight scenes involving flintlock muskets, pistols and sword play. The movie will be shot with Asgard's new Red HD camera with Ed Done as Director of Photography and Jon Firestone of Asgard as Digital Image Technician and Digital Effects Supervisor.

Asgard Entertainment has participated to some degree in nearly every feature film shot in Colorado in the past ten years. Recently Asgard assisted High Noon Productions with a television series and has shot commercials for a number of clients including Furniture Row, but their real strength lies in adding exciting to feature film. Asgard is currently in production on its own feature film, Gathering of Heroes: Legend of the Seven Swords. Seven Swords is shooting this week at Bishop's Castle in southern Colorado.

Inferno Film Productions aka Inferno Motion Pictures, is known to many people in the Denver area for the production of Dragon and the Hawk nine years ago. Since then Inferno has been primarily focused on sales of motion picture distribution rights, exhibiting at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, California each years and acting as a sales agent for other producers. Inferno is currently offering foreign and domestic rights for about 20 motion pictures. Some, such as Hannah House and Alice in Wasteland, were shot in Colorado. The Highwayman is the first of four motion pictures that Inferno will be producing in Colorado over the next three years financed by a limited partnership created to take advantage of federal and state tax credits and incentives.

Inferno will be shooting a promotional trailer for The Highwayman in the next few weeks and will be scheduling principle photography on the full feature in late September, early October and mid-November of this year.
