POWER UP Party Surges with Jane Lynch Drew Barrymore and Jamie Babbit...



In celebration of POWER UP's fourth year in a row with films playing at Outfest, the whose who of lesbian Hollywood came out to celebrate and sample the POWER UP Martini created by Eric Davison at the East/West Lounge.



POWER UP's (Professional Organization of Women in Entertainment Reaching Up) main purpose has been producing films though its unique film grant program.



POWER UP's successes include having a film as an Official Selection of the Sundance Film Festival in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 and winning the $10,000 Planet Out Grand Prize short film award in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. The individual success stories that have sprung from the group include: writer/director Angela Robinson (Herbie: Fully Loaded); writer/director Jessica Sharzer (untitled Dusty Springfield project); and writer Cherien Dabis (writer L Word).



This year's POWER UP films at Outfest include: "Billy's Dad is a " starring Robert Gant (Queer as Folk), Cady Huffman (Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Producers), Alex Borstein (Mad TV, Catwoman), "Starcrossed" starring John Wesley Shipp (Dawson's Creek, Second to Die, The Flash) and "PROM-troversy" starring Jane Lynch (A Mighty Wind, Best in Show, The L word.)



POWER UP is a non profit 501 (c) (3) organization whose mission is to promote the visibility and integration of gay women in entertainment, the arts and all forms of media. Founded on October 11, 2000, POWER UP boasts over 1,500 members nationwide.



Members are women and men, gay and straight, who share a singular purpose -- to promote diversity by supporting our mission.
