GroundReport.com Announces Monthly Citizen Journalism Competition

i>

New York City, () March 30, 2007 -- Citizen journalism leader GroundReport announced today the Off-The-Radar Contest, an ongoing competition that will award $1,000.00 to the most popular report on GroundReport.com each month. The contest invites entrants of any background, experience level and region to submit their original stories, images, video and audio to GroundReport.com free of charge.

GroundReport is a news website that enables users to self-publish articles, rate stories, earn a share of advertising revenues, create a personalized front page and build a free, hosted press portfolio.

The objective of the Off-The-Radar Contest is to highlight the stories marginalized by the mainstream media.

GroundReport gives everyone effective tools for participating in the news-gathering process, said founder and CEO Rachel Sterne. Every time you post on GroundReport.com you have a chance to win $1,000. We hope this will motivate people to start changing the news.

In keeping with GroundReport'ss user-driven format, the competition will be judged using the wisdom of crowds. GroundReport will count and display page views for each report and the article that garners the most unique page traffic during the month wins.

We are letting the users decide. Instead of sitting back and crossing their fingers, people can use tools like Digg and de.licio.us to increase their chances of winning, said Ms. Sterne. Entrants can find suggestions for promoting their reports at http://groundreport.com/tips.

The first contest begins April 1st and ends April 30th, 2007. To enter, writers must register at http://groundreport.com/signup.php. After creating an account, writers can instantly publish articles using the tools in their control panel. There is no limit to the number of submissions. All entrants earn 50% of the advertising revenues associated with their articles and retain all rights to their work. For official rules see http://groundreport.com/radarcontest.
