September 12, 2006 -- The exhibition SECRET WORLDS, drawings and mono-prints's will open on October 5th, 2006. The exhibition will be accompanied by a short essay by John Berendt.
At a time when most art seems to be mostly large-scale and in your face it might be appropriate to go the opposite way and show work which needs to be looked at carefully, and more than once, in order to understand its intricacies and meaning.
The works by these two artists, not often shown in New York, lend them selves perfectly to do so. Their small scale, fine lines, and skillful, sometimes even quirky execution draw the viewer into a world which comes from the artist'ss very personal and subjective observation of life and the cosmos around them. They are a most refreshing antidote to the easily accessible and often just as quickly forgotten images which bombard us relentlessly every day and show that, indeed, small is beautiful as well as arresting and strangely irresistible.
The works in this exhibition have been selected by Anya von Gosseln, from The Office for Art
A short essay, written by best selling American author, John Berendt, is available during the show.
RAPHAEL FODDE is a rarity among artists: he studied printmaking forty years ago under the tutelage of the master printmaker Giorgio Upiglio in Milan, where he met and printed the works of Miro, Man Ray, and Duchamp.
Rafael Foddé lives in Brooklyn and is represented in Secret Worlds by a selection of recent drawings and monoprints.
ROBERT ROANE BEARD has exhibited in Milan, Rome, Turin, Cortona, Paris, Madrid, Gabon, Cape Town, London, Mexico City, New York, Miami, Atlanta, Tampa, Dallas, Hudson and now Brooklyn.
Mr Beard recently was awarded a residency at the world renown artist colony, Cill Rialaig Project in County Kerry Ireland.
Venturing beyond his works on paper, Beard has created several installations, including Thinking of You, a meditation on friends lost to AIDS, which appeared in Milan, Turin, and New York to unanimous critical acclaim. His work has been reproduced in the Italian Journal of Art.
Robert Beard lives in New York and the Hudson Valley and is represented in Secret Worlds by a selection of drawings and watercolors created especially for this show.
