Gallery of Museum Quality Japanese Swords to Liquidate



June 2, 2005 -- A rare private gallery, of a 60 year collection of swords of national treasure and cultural property status will close its doors in June. This collection includes swords by some of the most famous sword smiths of Japan, with blades by Munechika, Kuniyoshi, Masamune, Rai Kuniyuki, Rai Kunitoshi, Niji Kunitoshi, Muramasa, Kotetsu and other smiths of note. This collection was assembled with help and counsel from some of the foremost Nihon To experts of Japan, including Dr. Homma Junji, Kunsan, Litt., D., Kajihara Kotoken, Yamanaka Kozan, Zen Priest, Bishop Nippo Syaku and Yasu Kizu, san.

This collection consists of Heian, Kamakura, Shinto and Shin Shinto blades. Included with this collection is the library of reference, including the complete set of the pre-war Nihon To. Pictures, analysis and descriptions of some of the blades in this collection was presented in the Arts of Asia of Hong Kong in the September/October, 1995 issue in an article entitled "The Circle and the Sword".
