Genuine Imitation Presents the Worldwide Debut of the Deliciously French Artist Fanlie Rosier 20 Unique Limited Edition Prints Available Starting July 7 2005
June 23, 2005 -- enuine Imitation presents the Worldwide debut of the deliciously French artist, Fanlie Rosier.
While trolling the tomes of Istockphoto.com Genuine Imitation curator/owner Vincent Clervi first happily stumbled upon Rosier's illustration work. Immediately enchanted by the curiously devilish warmth and personality embodied in her oeuvre, Clervi contacted the artist and began a correspondence that ultimately resulted in persuading the artist to debut her illustration work stateside. Roughly a year an a half later, Rosier has delivered a new body of work that not only delights, but titillates the sensibilities with it's distinctively wry and post-modern take on the feminist canon. Stylistically akin to American contemporaries Tim Biskup Fawn Gehweiler and even pop-culture phenom Shag, Rosier cuts her own path of distinction by fusing sharp line work with an inspired narrative that is emboldened by her own motley experiences as a young woman.
For this exclusive Portland exhibit, Rosier, has created dual collections of lush "Goddess" illustrations. The first, "Attractive Goddesses", cleverly reveals facets of sinister behavior in women; the second, "Ethnic Goddesses" muses over the palpable sexuality of cultural archetypes. Her universe of beguiling characters simultaneously resonates maturity and navet, while captivating the imagination with a uniquely kaleidoscopic palette.
The Artist
Illustration is the passion of artist Fanlie Rosier and the computer screen her easel of choice. A French native and current resident of the historic, cultural city of Montpellier, in the South of France, Fanlie works in a variety of mediums from graphic design to photography, but illustration remains her ultimate love.
Fanlie sharpened her innate sensitivity to shapes and colors as a student of Fine Arts. Her multi-disciplined studies in drawing, painting, comic illustration, and design now influence her computer-generated illustrative art, the high tech brush and canvas allowing the perfect balance of her stylized graphic approach and eye for detail.
"As illustration is a mix of various graphical languages such as color management, design elements, or space structuring, the computer remains the best tool I have found. It allows me to experiment with all of these aspects, at the same time or separately, for a final enhancement" explains Fanlie. "I truly feel that considering a piece of art from many different points of view during the creation process makes the final image much more effective."
Fanlie firmly believes that illustrators should constantly remain aware of the creative accomplishments of their contemporaries. She is a member of pro-active communities dealing with illustrations, www.istockphoto.com and www.pictoplasma.de.
"Fanelie's work is like a good white wine. Crisp, clean refreshing but with undertones of complexity and sweetness. She has a flair for capturing a moment in her photography and illustrationssometimes it seems as though things just spontaneously unfold before her (even her elaborate Asian influenced stilllifes), and she just happened by with her camera. That is a true talent. She has everything she needs to be successful; she is technically savvy, she has a flair for color, and the eye of an artist." - Diane Diederich
Genuine Imitation is proud to present the worldwide debut exhibit of Fanlie Rosier's fantastical illustration work.
The Genuine Imitation Gallery believes that art should be shared and appreciated long after it leaves the gallery wall. We want people to walk through our doors, see something they love and be able to acquire it. We strive for quality while eschewing elitist attitudes and price tags. Our showcases run the gamut of artistic styles, featuring up-and-coming as well as established artists, Portland-based and beyond. In addition, emphasis is placed on illustration and graphically-oriented works, both static and moving, in hopes of raising the awareness of these new art forms. We celebrate all forms of art and our objective is to provide a forum for the artist and public to interface. Our only recurrent theme is accessibility, both in price and subject matter. The gallery welcomes all age groups and therefore draws the line at overtly lewd or politically volatile material.
Please join us on Thursday, July 7th from 6-9pm for the opening of Rosier's show.
