The New Art Center in Newton, MA proudly presents a screening of Howard Zinn: You Can's8217;t Be Neutral On A Moving Train, directed by Deb Ellis and Denis Mueller. This acclaimed film
looks at the amazing life of the renowned historian, activist and author Howard Zinn. Following his early days as a shipyard labor organizer and bombardier in World War II, Zinn became an
academic rebel and leader of civil disobedience in a time of institutionalized racism and war. His influential writings shine light on and bring voice to factory workers, immigrant
laborers, African Americans, Native Americans and the working poor. Featuring rare archival materials and interviews with Zinn and colleagues such as Noam Chomsky, You Can's8217;t Be
Neutral captures the essence of this extraordinary man who has been a catalyst for progressive change for more than 60 years. It is narrated by actor Matt Damon and features music by
Pearl Jam, Woody Guthrie & Billy Bragg.
Following the screening there will be a Question & Answer session with Howard Zinn, subject of the film. Mr. Zinn is a historian, playwright, and social activist. He has taught at
Spelman College and Boston University, and has been a visiting professor at the University of Paris and the University of Bologna. He has received the Thomas Merton Award, the Eugene V.
Debs Award, the Upton Sinclair Award, and the Lannan Literary Award. He is author of several books, including A People History of the United States: 1492 's8211; Present, Passionate
Declarations: Essays on War and Justice and You Can's8217;t Be Neutral on a Moving Train, his acclaimed autobiography.
