Funded through the iVENTURES10 program run by IllinoisVENTURES, The Next Big Sound is a new site that shifts the current music industry model on its head by allowing anyone the chance to play the role of a record mogul and "sign" whatever artists they think are going to become popular to their own label.

Listeners come to the site and can immediately start streaming great unsigned music from the radio player on the homepage. When they hear something that they like, they can register as a mogul and sign the artist. The Next Big Sound tracks when moguls sign each artist, giving rewards and recognition to moguls who discover great talent early.

To celebrate the launch, The Next Big Sound has announced two competitions which run through August:
