Comedians Release Album Early Online
Sudden Death is currently one of the most popular artists on the nationally syndicated Dr. Demento Show. Their new album Die Laughing contains three songs which have already become hits on the show. "Ozzman"- a song that pokes fun of Ozzy Osbourne and his family- was the 6th most requested song of 2003. "Pop Star"- a parody of "Wanksta" by 50 Cent about American Idol- made the weekly Funny Five countdown several times in 2004. And "Inner Voice"- a duet with Rochester, NY's Worm Quartet- has made the Funny Five countdown eight times so far. Three of those appearances on the countdown were at number one making this song the most requested song of the year so far.
"We had all these songs on Dr. Demento before the album was even finished" says Sudden Death's front man Tom Rockwell. "We didn't want to just sit on it while the label did its promotions." The record label, FIDIM Interactive, LLC, sees the advance sales as another marketing tools. "So while they're promoting the album to radio and retail stores we're out there selling it to our fans."
The theory is that this will build a bigger "buzz" about the album through word-of-mouth. So when the album does appear in stores on August 23rd there will be a bigger demand for it. The album has already received some good reviews. Jersey Beat Magazine says "I do know funny, and this guy's funny and unlike a lot of comedy albums that you play and then file away once you've heard all the jokes, it's musical enough for multiple listens." Upon hearing the album Dr. Demento said "Great work. Should do well if there's any justice in the world."
"We're doing everything we can to help promote this album" says Rockwell who is currently booking shows to promote Die Laughing.
