Mr Airplane Man Cause for Applause The Assault North Six July 13TH8 PM

Coming on the heels of a brilliant EP, the women in Mr. Airplane Man have served up a brilliant long-player with C'Mon DJ. The duo's second record, Moanin', is more infectious and accessible. But C'Mon DJ is in many ways a progression to a more powerful sound. The guitars sound bigger, the songs more energetic. From the big, scary guitar that kicks off the title cut, these women are all business. The Howlin' Wolf cut "Asked for Water" removes all of the original's subtlety and replaces it with an almost retarded reverb-drenched stomp. With Margaret's howls, it's perfect.

This is blues-based high-energy primal scream music with all the sweat, blood, guts and passion of punk rock. The combination makes this great, glorious noise that swirls around and can be a bit disorienting and surreal (at least until you give in and let it take control). It's well worth the ride. -Brian J. Bowe, CREEM Magazine

Dude. Danzig. Chrome Cranks. Put them in a blender, toss in some twangy, hollow-bodied guitar-piped through-reverb rockabilly, add a zest of a lime and a jigger of Kettel One to a single can of Red Bull and you'll have wings! Wings to fly around the British Invasion pop, New York no wave and punk rock irreverence the Cause For Applause boys dish out. Cryin' shame it's only an EP.  -Greg Barbera, thecrutch.net

The Assault were by far the highlight of the night... I watched the collective faces of the crowd and could see and feel an aura of "holy shit" on thier faces. Drummer Julie Pop was ferocious on her kit, Laura Leontine played a mean bass and Margot Bianca's guitar skills were versatile. The band's metal, folk, punk and blues influences were very apparent throughout the set. In some songs, you could hear a little of each. The Assault almost magically combine all of these influences ... Equally amazing was that all members sang in some songs, each bringing a voice and personality to a song. As the show progressed, band members seemed to go from nervous to loose, often bantering with the crowd. After their set was finished, the crowd wanted more, something I have never witnessed at the Bug Jar. -Jason Wilder, mysteryandmisery.com
