Ray Charles Petition Tops 5000 names
Reflecting upon the passing of Music Legend Ray Charles, a group of musicians and music lovers alike intiated a virtual petition. This petition was a recommendation that Ray Charles replace Hamilton on the $10 Federal Reserve Note.
A new $10 bill is scheduled to be issued in early 2006, it has not yet been decided who's portrait will grace the obverse side. The petition now totals over 5000 signatories as of September 2005. Please visit http://www.rayontheten.com to support this movement.
This is a petition in protest of an injustice that only you, our elected representatives, can fix. We have recently been reminded of the great importance and impact of a great American, recently deceased, on the development of American music. His name is Ray Charles, known as "The Genius" since the early 1950s. He is a founding father of both modern R&B and modern Gospel. He has overcome obstacles and broken down musical barriers.
We respectfully submit that to ameliorate the injustices mentioned above, the Department of the Treasury should take the following actions: Issue a new series of ten dollar bill with a portrait of Mr. Ray Charles on its face.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned:
