Americas Biggest Announces Winners for July Music Contest

America's Biggest today announced the winners of the July, 2005 music contest. Winners were determined by the number of online votes that were cast by registered fans throughout July. The July musical artists competed for a cash prize of $5,000 and a chance to move to the America's Biggest final round. Second and third place winners received $500 and $250, respectively.

* Second place: Kian Brown (Solo Artist, North Carolina)

* Third place: Richard Levering (Solo Artist, New York)



First place winners, Los Angeles-based band Alan Smithee, were confident that they had a good chance of winning the July contest. "Our fans really came through for us, some of them voting hundreds of times over the course of the month, and we are extremely grateful for their support," said lead singer and rhythm guitarist David Jonelis. "This win really came at the perfect time for us, because we have been preparing for a tour in September and October, and the only thing holding us back is our transportation situation. Now that we have the prize money, we will be able to buy the van that we previously could not afford!"



It's been a good summer for the band. Alan Smithee recently appeared as an opening act for Stevie Nicks. In addition, the band will be holding record release party for their new album Wash Away, August 13th at The Roxy in Los Angeles.



Determined to offer an alternative promotion vehicle for artists, America's Biggest planned a soft-launch of its website and talent contest for July 4th, 2005.



"We connected with a small group of bands that had heard about the contest through word-of-mouth, message boards, blogs, and newsgroups," said America's Biggest Executive Producer Lisa Sirlin. "It's gratifying to see the grass-roots effort building. America's Biggest helps level the playing field and allows the artists the chance to be creative in how they market themselves."
