Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter David Newbould has assembled an all-star lineup of accomplished musicians who have shared the stage with stars such as Merle Haggard, Bob Dylan, and Van Morrison for a live performance to be video-taped in Austin, TX on August 20, 2008 at 7 p.m. at METV Headquarters. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the Humane Society of Williamson County.
Newbould, who has had many of his songs appear on major network TV shows such as "Criminal Minds" (CBS), "Dawson's Creek" (WB), and "Monarch Cove" (Lifetime) will be joined on stage by
veteran players Redd Volkaert (Merle Haggard), Cindy Cashdollar (Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Asleep At The Wheel), Papa Mali (Ruthie Foster, Miss Lavelle White, the Killer Bees) Wendy
Colonna, Rachel Loy, Beth Garner, Will Taylor, Danny Levin, and several others.
Cindy Cashdollar said "The first time I heard David perform his songs, I knew I was hearing something very unique and got hooked immediately. I think it takes a lot for an artist to stand
out in a music-oriented city like Austin, let alone a national industry overflowing with a well-worn path of songwriters."
When asked to describe his sound, Newbould, who was recently featured in Performing Songwriter Magazine said "I suppose I like to think of my music being folk, which I describe as writing
about people and the world around you." But according the Amarillo Star, "To make things easy, you could call David Newbould's music Americana. But in reality, his tunes reach across
genre lines, everything from country and folk to rock and pop."
METV will be taping the performance for a live DVD/CD package. The show will include songs from David's recorded catalogue, as well as some new material. David's entire catalogue is
currently available at live shows, iTunes, and all major online music retailers.
While this project is destined to be a major benchmark in David's career, it is only part of a busy 2008 for the Canadian singer-songwriter. He has spent time in Nashville, co-writing
with established writers such as Jesse Terry (Masville Publishing), Rachel Loy, and Thad Beatty (Sugarland guitarist). Following his live taping, he will embark on his second of two
extensive tours for the year. So far in 2008 he has visited New Mexico, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Ohio, Canada, and made several trips to west Texas.
The year's second half will see him in these terrains, and also in the west coast. He has become a favored regular singer for Will Taylor And Strings Attached, and performs weekend
concert series with them whenever possible. As time permits he will continue to record songs written in the year and a half since 2007's Big Red Sun, a process which has already begun
with Austin, Texas producer Darwin Smith (David Baerwald, Will Sexton, Aimee Bobruck).
