Hipakusha The Lowdown Scrimmage CD Launch Sat July 1 The Zoo Brisbane

From mysterious beginnings Hipakusha (aka 's8216;The River City Crew's8217;) have emerged from the Brisbane underground as one of the cities defining aural identities. October last year saw the release their debut EP 's8216;The Grand Royale's8217; to a capacity crowd at 's8216;The Zoo's8217;. No time was wasted, heading straight into Rocking Horse studio's8217;s with esteemed producer Anthony Lycenko (David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Pete Murray, Resin Dogs) the River City Crew have emerged triumphant. Sat July 1st @ The Zoo they launch 's8216;The Lowdown / Scrimmage's8217;; a double A side radio release lifted from their forthcoming sophomore EP. Including Elation, Illzilla (Mel), The Chris Poulsen Trio & Sampology, a staggering cast of special guests on the night means another Hipakusha launch is all set to go down as one of the biggest events on the local Brisbane calendar.



Where funked up old school meets new school hip hop, 's8216;The Lowdown / Scrimmage's8217; is live beats, decks, MPC, Nord lead & horns alongside trad guitar, bass and drums and sees frontman Chico Mendez continue on with his intuitive tales of the girls, clubs, drugs, loot, casino heists and fuzz of Brisvegas.



From sharing stages with The Resin Dogs, PTY LTD and The Dynamic Thrills - in the space of twelve months Hipakusha have gone to themselves being supported by such acts as Good Buddha, Kid Confucius, Tomee and the Neighbourhood and Elation. Record-number headlines and sell out residencies at premier venues all across Brisvegas (The Zoo, The Rev, The Press Club, Family, The Sol Bar, The Soundlounge) have seen them hit the streets running.



A rotating 6-10 piece line up led by Chico Mendez (Guit 's8211; Vox), The River City Crew boast a foundation of Paulie Dubs (Perc 's8211; Guit), J (Beats), A1 (Bass), Saul-ae (Sax) & DJ Bruxism (Decks 's8211; Noises).
