The on-going global protest for imprisoned Schapelle Corby has been delivered to the Australian Consulate in New York, USA. Indie-pop artist Tara Hack made the delivery to staff at the Manhattan based consulate building to protest at the lack of support from the Australian government.
The protest itself has been rolling around the world for some time, with citizens of a growing number of nations posing with Free Schapelle posters in front of local landmarks and
settings. The protest zigzags across continents, and has even been put to music, courtesy of one of Tara'ss highly acclaimed Schapelle Corby support songs.
The latest development comes in the wake of the re-emergence of a 2005 statement by now prime minister Kevin Rudd, in which he urged full support and a pardon for Ms Corby. The statement
itself has been placed upon the mobile website domain name bearing his name, www.KevinRudd.mobi, which was recently purchased by a European human
rights advocate. The Australian government has come under increasing fire in recent months on the issue of Schapelle Corby'ss human rights, which many observers insist were relinquished
to maintain political stability with Indonesia.
SCHAPELLE CORBY'sS HEALTH
Schapelle Corby herself is now in poor health, as almost 5 years imprisonment in terrible conditions has taken its toll, both mentally and physically. She was recently forced back to her
cell from a hospital bed, with guards appearing in the dark of night and without warning, to awake her and take her away in her pajama'ss. Rachel James of Schapelle.Net comments: That
cruelty could almost have been almost purpose-planned to cause maximum trauma and distress, for someone already under medical treatment for acute psychiatric problems. Why at night, why
no warning, and why were the media aware and not Schapelle, her family, or the Australian consulate in Bali Schapelle needs her government to fulfill its obligations to her as a citizen
immediately.
TARA HACK / KEVIN RUDD
In another development Tara Hack has released an epic protest song directed firmly at Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. Whilst the song, 'sThe Wizard Down Under's, cleverly documents the human
rights abuses and the global protest, it largely confronts Mr Rudd'ss inaction on the case. His 2005 statement is also replayed to him in the striking video, now available via YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watchv=wg5l9J4Qj1k
Both the song and the video have been highly acclaimed on the world stage, with one UK music critic, Jan Felding, stating that: Protest song poetry of this quality hasn'st been seen for
many years. It is without question an exceptional track from a huge talent, and is a guaranteed global internet hit, particularly outside Australia, where airplay won'st be restricted by
politicians. The addition at the very end of the song, of Schapelle Corby'ss terrible cries, is a master stroke, reminding the listener that this is actually a real life story.
The free MP3 is available as a free download, from the following page, where the video can also be viewed:
In the meantime, the international campaign to support Schapelle Corby continues to gain momentum, as increasing numbers view the research reports and raw information which have remained
relatively obscure within Australia. Ms James concludes that People are shocked and appalled when they scratch the surface and see what is really there. These are real people across the
world, who see an innocent woman suffering beyond imagination, year after year. In increasing numbers they are simply not prepared to walk away. It is well past the time that the
government actually did something to help her before she deteriorates even further.
