Toubab Krewe will play a night-closing Thursday, June 15th midnight set on the That Tent stage at the 2006 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The band will also perform earlier that
evening at 8 PM on the national Radio Bonnaroo broadcast, as well as on Friday, June 16th at 2:15 PM on the Sonic Stage.
The festival performances come as part of a spring and summer tour in support of Toubab Krewe'ss self-titled debut on Upstream Records, which was produced by multiple Grammy award winner
Steven Heller and released nationally on June 6th. Other highlights of the ongoing tour include performances at the LEAF, Joshua Tree, Strawberry, Sierra Nevada, High Sierra, North East
Kingdom, moe.Down, and Chicago World Music festivals. The band will also be featured on NPR'ss World Cafe with David Dye on June 21st.
Blending Malian, American, and Dirty South influences into a sound all its own, Toubab Krewe has set a new standard for fusions of rock 'sn's roll and West African music, says Banning
Eyre at Afropop Worldwide.
Members of the group developed their unique sound over the course of numerous extended trips to West Africa, where they immersed themselves in the local culture and studied and performed
with master musicians such as Lamine Soumano, Vieux Kante, Madou Dembele, and Koungbanan Conde.
The magnetic instrumental quintet formed in early 2005 and has attracted a diverse and devoted national following, captivating crowds everywhere from the Blue Note to the John F. Kennedy
Center for the Performing Arts. The band'ss energetic performances and acclaimed self-titled debut have won them praise from the New York Times, Global Rhythm, Afropop Worldwide, The New
Yorker, Relix, The Boston Herald and more.
