IVANS (www.ivans.com) conducted a 2009 Healthcare Provider Survey revealing that providers believe both pay-for-performance initiatives and technology improvements will increase the quality of care, but they are concerned about the associated costs of reform initiatives. In addition, they are actively working to grow their Medicare business over the next few years.

>    72% of healthcare providers surveyed believe a pay-for-performance model could lead to improved patient outcomes, but 79% believe that it would also increase their costs of doing business;

>    39% of those surveyed plan to implement electronic health records (EHRs) over the next 12 months; and

>    78% of providers surveyed expect their Medicare business to grow over the next 3 years, as more than 68% of respondents represented home health care and nursing homes
