BluesocketR First to Market with Centralized Intrusion Protection System for Wireless Networks

Bluesocket(R), Inc., (www.bluesocket.com) the leader in open wireless security and management solutions, today announced general availability of the BlueSecure(TM) Centralized Intrusion Protection System (IPS).

The new product is the only one of its kind that centralizes radio frequency (RF) sensing, providing an easier and less expensive way for enterprises to protect their wireless local area networks (WLANs) from hacker attacks. The new system was introduced in May at Interop as part of a complete WLAN solution suite from Bluesocket that includes the BlueSecure Access Point 1500, which also recently shipped.

The BlueSecure Centralized IPS revolutionizes RF intrusion detection systems by being able to monitor a whole building with a single sensor using always on RF protection, so a company never misses a malicious attack on its wireless network. In addition, BlueSecure Centralized IPS scans for suspicious activities across an entire enterprise, alerting an IT manager to attacks in real time so he or she can respond before damage is done.

The introduction of the BlueSecure Centralized IPS was a direct response to our customers needs for an easier way to manage the security of their WLANs, said Ralph Calistri, CEO of Bluesocket. Previously, the only option for enterprises to protect their wireless networks was to manually deploy and configure multiple RF sensors, or use Access Points acting as a part-time sensor that may miss an attack. With the Bluesocket Centralized IPS, we are ushering in the third-generation RF sensor. The ability to deploy only one sensor per building dramatically reduces capital and operational expenditures for our customers, and advances our leadership in bringing trust and simplicity to increasingly complex wireless networks.

BlueSecure Centralized IPS is comprised of two components: the centralized phased array 802.11a/b/g RF sensor and management software built-into the BlueView(TM) Management System. The new system protects enterprises from all types of rogue devices including Access Points, rogue clients, neighboring WLANs, peer-to-peer (ad hoc) networks, and software APs as they appear. It also requires minimal set-up and management, going from out-of-the-box to monitoring live traffic within minutes. A network manager can also view all the access points and clients around an enterprise s physical infrastructure, to determine who s associating with what device and what information is being sent over the WLAN.

Bluesocket partnered with Highwall Technologies to bring the Centralized IPS to market. As RF protection takes on greater importance, we are excited to be working with Bluesocket on this first of its kind solution, said Joy Randels, executive vice president of Highwall Technologies. Combining our expertise in RF sensors with Bluesocket s knowledge in wireless management and security provides customers with a powerful system to ensure their networks are safe from malicious attacks.

As further validation of the innovation of the Bluesocket Centralized IPS, IDG s Computerworld recognized it as an Honorable Mention for its 2005 Horizon Awards. The Computerworld Horizon awards were established this year to inform readers of the most cutting-edge technologies that are on the horizon from research labs and private companies. The program is accompanied by an eight-page special report in Computerworld magazine that is available in today s issue and online at http://www.computerworld.com/horizon.

This year s Horizon Award winners exemplify the most notable technologies that will potentially impact both consumers and enterprises in the coming years, said Don Tennant, editor in chief of Computerworld. Bluesocket is a prime example of a company that is providing innovative technology solutions to meet the enterprise market s needs for secure wireless LAN technology.
