Mirage Networks, developers of award-winning endpoint security solutions that combine leading network access control with policy enforcement and day-zero threat protection, today
announced that Mount Sinai Hospital has chosen the Mirage Networks endpoint security solution to secure its network interior.
Mt. Sinai faces IT security challenges common in hospital network environments: devices running on embedded operating systems (OSs), for which the availability of upgrades and patches is
often slow, and applications in use that require a server, managed by an external vendor, be placed on the hospital network.
Widely deployed at point of care, life-saving machines on rolling medical carts improve patient outcomes. However, many of these devices run embedded OSs which are contractually managed
by a third party; development and deployment of OS upgrades and patches for these devices often lag the rest of the market by six months or more.
In addition, Mt. Sinai, like most hospitals, uses applications that require placement of servers managed by third parties on Mt. Sinai's8217;s network. To facilitate the use of these
applications, vendors need to access their servers remotely, creating an unwanted hole in the hospital's8217;s network security.
According to Greg Stock, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Mirage Networks, these challenges create ideal jumping-off points for cyber criminals and worm, virus, and spyware
infections into the network interior. This not only poses a risk to the security of data on the network, potentially violating the Healthcare Insurance Privacy and Accountability Act
(HIPAA) rules, but can also jeopardize patient health if an infection causes the device to malfunction.'s8221;
's8220;These devices and applications could provide a unique 's8216;in's8217; for network reconnaissance and penetration by hackers, and it was critical that we shore up this
vulnerability before we suffered such an attack,'s8221; said Tyrone Oby, manager of network operations, Mount Sinai Hospital. 's8220;Mirage presents an ideal solution that complements our
current infrastructure while finding and stopping threats on any networked device 's8211; even ones we don's8217;t manage 's8211; and helping us stay in compliance with HIPAA
regulations.'s8221;
Stock added, 's8221;Mirage endpoint control will help Mt. Sinai protect its critical data resources from theft. Risk assessment, security posture checks, threat and policy violation
detection and termination, and surgical, safe quarantining are just a few of the precautions we's8217;re helping Mt. Sinai take.'s8221;
Mirage solutions use behavioral rules to detect when devices are either spreading threats or violating policies, even if the threat is a new one, and patches are either unavailable or not
yet installed. It then surgically isolates the device in question, avoiding cross-infection while enabling remediation, before allowing the device renewed access to network resources. In
so doing, it stops damage from threats introduced onto the network by mobile computing, remote connections, and day-zero malware's8212;complementing perimeter security solutions and
giving companies a more complete, in-depth security defense infrastructure.
About Mirage Networks
Mirage Networks is committed to defending the network interior with the industry's8217;s easiest to implement network security solutions. Delivered through a global channel of VARs, SIs,
OEMs and MSSPs, the company's8217;s patent-pending technology gives IT managers control in the uncontrollable environment of infected, unmanaged and out-of-policy devices. Its
appliance-based approach deploys out of band, and requires neither signatures nor agents to terminate day-zero threats and enforce policies, while ensuring a positive user experience.
Delivering security from the moment any device enters the network, Mirage solutions provide powerful answers to the problems of securing networks with heterogeneous infrastructures and
fluid perimeters. Based in Austin Texas, Mirage Networks is a consistent winner of industry awards and recognition. Learn more at http://www.miragenetworks.com.
