2008 TTM Congress Concludes with Success Sets 2009 Date



Medavera's174; today announced the successful conclusion of the 2008 TTM's174; Congress, a four-day international medical education program addressing the neurological benefits of patient temperature modulation therapy post sudden cardiac arrest, as well as post traumatic brain, head, and spine injury, stroke and subarachnoid hemorrhage, and neonatal asphyxia, among other life-threatening states. With the 2008 program complete and vital work continuing, Medavera today also announced that the 2009 TTM Congress is now set to take place in Miami, Florida, November 4-7, 2009.



Therapeutic temperature management (TTM) treatments such as therapeutic hypothermia are increasingly of interest in critical-care cases because of the associated improved neurological outcomes. Over 150 key medical community players participated in the just-concluded 2008 event, which took place in Barcelona, Spain, from October 1st-4th. In attendance were cardiologists, neurologists, emergency medicine physicians, and other critical-care specialists as well as nurse practitioners and nurses from over 20 countries, including the Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Thailand, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the United States.



The University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) and Medavera facilitated continuing medical education credit to physicians and nurses in attendance. Also attending in support of global TTM learning were exhibitors and unrestricted educational grant sponsors, including: Gold Sponsor and event co-founder Cincinnati Sub-Zero Products, Inc. Dr. Richard V. Aghababian, Associated Dean of Continuing Medical Education at UMMS, commented, The science behind this treatment modality seems sound and promising in terms of improving patient outcome. The congress is an important opportunity for those conducting research in TTM, and those using TTM to care for patients, to confer with each other, with the goal of improving patient outcomes.
