"The response has been incredible," Lowe says. "The idea just seem to have caught people's imagination, and hopefully Ellen DeGeneres can be one of them."
Audrey Bell-Kearney from 'Sister INC', a mentoring site for entrepreneurs commented, "I like what you are doing. It has gotten me to think further outside of the box. Good luck."
Danielle A. Ledesma, a talent co-ordinator for NBC - The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, was very impressed with Lowe's idea, "Awesome idea, Love it," she commented.
Lowe who is a design student from Christchurch, New Zealand says that the homepage will be sold for $1m exclusively to one buyer only, which they can use to display an animated or static ad or logo, together with a link to their own site.
"I think this will mostly appeal to larger companies, but there are more than one way to advertise on my site," he said.
Those buying up Lowe's alternative advertising spaces for $100, have included job listing sites to independent businesses.
Apart from building a Web site, mywebbybuddies.com Lowe didn't actively advertise or market his idea. But, through his network of friends on YouTube, inquiries began to trickle in. Lowe then focused his efforts on building relationships with clients.
"I'm humiliating myself by dancing," Lowe explained, "just like what you see at the beginning of the Ellen DeGeneres Show."
As the idea catches on, Lowe hopes to grab the attention of the famous TV personality.
"She's one of the most successful talk show hosts, and I'd rather not be afraid to take a chance in life, because you'll never know what may come," Lowe said.
A great New Zealander, Sir Edmund Hillary once said, "You don't have to be a fantastic hero to do certain things. You can be just an ordinary chap, sufficiently motivated to reach challenging goals."
Lowe's ambitions with his new found fame and fortune, if he reaches his $1 million target, "get myself an interview on the Ellen DeGeneres' talk show, pay off my student loan," he explained, "and buy myself some dance lessons."
In return, the buyers' will not only receive hundreds or even thousands times more advertising exposure, thanks to the huge fan base the talk show receives, but the opportunity to be part of an online phenomenon.
