May 6, 2005 -- Rose Lee Archer knows first hand the struggles women business owners face with integrating their daily family responsibilities and their business goals and aspirations.

The National Women's Business Council reports that in the last seven years women business ownership has grown by 23%. Melanie Sabelhaus is energized by the fact that women-owned firms generated $2.5 Trillion in sales. She takes pride in the SBA's Procurement Process and happily reports, "Businesses owned by women of color are growing at six times the rate of all U.S. firms."

Rose Lee says, "As society changes so do the characteristics of U.S. households. Over 1/4 of the nation's households are headed by single mothers with a total of 34.6 % of all families having women as head of households"

Rose Lee recognizes the unique issues faced by single mothers and working women caregivers. 17% of working women caregivers with intense demands leave work or take a leave of absence to meet their family needs. Additionally, 89% of women over eighteen will be caregivers someday to children and a parent or both. "These are the women we are targeting" said Pamela Morrison, Director of Florida Women's Business Center. "We are here to guide those women along by offering numerous business resources from counseling to technology." Seabron Smith, Executive Director of the TED Center in Delray Beach, Florida, is excited to house the new Florida Women's Business Center and share his technology business labs with women who want to prepare themselves as a new start-up or develop new skills to expand their existing businesses."

Today women have more demands on them, working, parenting, cleaning, cooking and caregiving are variables driving women to understand the benefits and flexibility of owning a business.

Rose Lee's journalistic talents have been honored by the receiving the "2005 Small Business Journalist of the Year Award." She is actively working as women in business advocate dedicated to carve out more opportunities for mothers of children with disabilities. These mothers have unique responsibilities and need the flexibility in their day-to-day schedule that an entrepreneur enjoys. Rose Lee reminds her viewers that even though women are entering nontraditional industries and changing the way the world does business, one thing remains the same decade after decade...women are the nurturers of society.
