During the year 1984 there were 5 major events that led to birth of The "Dunkadelic-Era". 1. David Stern was announced as the 4th NBA Commissioner on February 1, 1984. 2. The NBA first introduced the Slam Dunk Contest to All-Star Weekend. 3. Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin formed Def Jam Records. Kurtis Blow the hip-hop pioneer released the hit rap song 'Basketball.' 4. The Fresh Fest was the first major hip-hop concert tour in America featuring RUN-DMC, Whodini, Kurtis Blow, the Fat Boys, and Newcleus. 5. Michael Jordan was drafted by the Chicago Bulls and signed with Nike to produce the Air Jordan sneakers that became fashion symbols within the hip-hop culture.
