Call for Action 100000 Men Standing Strong for Peace



The Peace in the Hood Campaign is calling on 100,000 Men to Stand Strong for Peace by joining community, social justice & political activism across the city. The call for action will kick-off on June 10, 2006 with a Peace Rally at 11am at Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit.



During the Rally the brotherhood of volunteers will sign up to be Peace in the Hood Peacekeepers in turn, the Peace in the Hood Campaign will pair them up with block clubs, citizen patrol teams, neighborhood watch groups in their own community. In addition, since these sorts of community groups don's8217;t exist in certain communities, the Peace in the Hood Campaign plans to work with those neighborhoods to help develop them.



Rev. Charles E. Williams, II is founder and president of the Mary Church Terrell Council for Community Empowerment. Heavily involved in the Political arena, Rev. Williams has been fortunate to be mentored with some of Black America's8217;s most influential social, political and Labor activists like Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Jesse Jackson and Bill Lucy.



The Peace in the Hood Campaign is the ongoing project of the Mary Church Terrell Council for Community Empowerment. The Peace in the 's8216;Hood Campaign is a comprehensive violence prevention/intervention project that strives to eliminate the tide of violence in metro Detroit. This campaign educates and raises awareness about violence in our community through action.



Confirmed speakers include: Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Wendell Anthony, Rev. Horace Sheffield, Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick and other community activists & civic leaders.
