Healing For Viet Nam Veterans

's8220;Welcome Home Brother's8221; is the first musical tribute to Viet Nam veterans. This extremely moving song is featured on the 's8220;United We Stand's8221; patriotic CD by singer/ songwriter Lloyd Marcus. Marcus's8217; greatest desire is for his song to begin a healing in the hearts of Viet Nam vets who were unfairly rejected upon returning home. 's8220;Welcome Home Brother's8221; awards them the long overdue welcome home they so richly deserve. Songwriter Marcus is convinced that his heartfelt tribute was divinely inspired and orchestrated.



Here's8217;s the fascinating story. Marcus was asked to sing at a Veterans Day ceremony where the touring version of the Viet Nam Veteran Wall memorial was on display. Marcus was moved by the hurt and pain he witnessed in many of the Viet Nam veteran attendees. He felt compelled to honor them in song.



Marcus's8217; original plan for his tribute was to record a subdued version of the classic, 's8220;When Johnny Comes Marching Home's8221;. He planned to record brief comments from Viet Nam vets to use as the introduction of the song. It appears that God had other plans.



Five Viet Nam vets consented to come to the studio and record their comments.However, on the evening of the recording session, due to scheduling conflicts and other circumstances, four of the five vets could not attend. Only decorated war vet Gerry Milholen showed up.



Rather than the evening being a total bust, music producer and engineer Frank Starchak and Marcus decided to record Gerry. Frank set him up in the recording booth, headset, microphone and low lighting. Gerry said, 's8220;I don's8217;t know what to say's8221;. Their only instruction to Gerry was to simply speak from his heart. For thirty minutes with incredible articulation, honesty, courage and passion, Gerry Milholen disclosed the pain, suffering and frustration he and his band of brothers have endured over the years. Gerry's8217;s story had Frank and Marcus fighting tears of compassion for these mistreated American heroes.



Later that evening after the amazing recording session, a chorus appeared in Marcus's8217; brain. He believes it was channeled from a higher place. 's8220;Welcome home brother, welcome home. May your spirit no longer roam. You did your duty with honor. Too long you's8217;ve been alone. America wants to say, welcome home. America wants to say, welcome home.'s8221; Marcus felt lead to use Gerry's8217;s story and his chorus for the tribute dismissing his original idea of using 's8220;When Johnny Comes Marching Home's8221;.



Music producer Frank Starchak and Marcus painstakingly edited Gerry's8217;s 30 minute heart wrenching story down to two minutes. At appropriate intervals, they interjected Marcus's8217; chorus resulting in the birth of a divinely orchestrated and inspired tribute titled, 's8220;Welcome Home Brother's8221;.
