Web Site Takes Novel Approach to Aiding Victims of Katrina and Rita

The newly launched trickortreatforkatrinasvictims.org Web site takes a new approach to aiding victims of both Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita - candy sales. By visiting the site, patrons can purchase boxes of gummi bear sample packs to be distributed during Halloween. Twenty-five percent of the profits earned by trickortreatforkatrinasvictims.org will go to the American Red Cross' Disaster Relief Fund.

"I was shocked and amazed by the devastation Hurricane Katrina caused in the Gulf Coast," stated Site Creator JP Bonar. "I never thought I would see so much destruction, loss of life, chaos, and confusion in my life." Bonar added, "With yet another storm, Hurricane Rita, hitting our shores, it is even more imperative that we make efforts to aid the thousands of victims in any and every way possible."

Bonar is urging shop merchants, office buildings, teachers, shopping malls, schools, and individuals to 'hand out treats with a purpose' this Halloween and participate in the relief efforts.

By purchasing the gummi bear sample boxes on trickortreatforkatrinasvictims.org individuals will help dissipate the costs of shelters and temporary housing, relief workers, feeding assistance plans, and other efforts being made by the American Red Cross' Disaster Relief Fund. Each box contains 30 samples of four mouthwatering, nutritious gummi bear treats that feature the healthful benefits of glyconutrients plus nutrients from 12 dehydrated fruits and vegetables.

As of today, the American Red Cross has spent and distributed more than $521 million to meet the emergency needs of Hurricane Katrina survivors, and has opened shelters to house the thousands of people seeking safe respite from Hurricane Rita. The organization estimates that relief efforts for Katrina will exceed $2 billion, meeting the urgent needs of nearly one million families. In addition, the American Red Cross has pre-positioned supplies to move into areas affected by Hurricane Rita as soon as safely possible.

Trickortreatforkatrinasvictims.org will continue selling product through Monday, October 24, 2005. The site includes a "Count Down" timer noting the days, hours, minutes, and seconds that remain until it closes the effort of raising funds for the Disaster Relief Fund. When this "Count Down" reaches zero, trickortreatforkatrinasvictims.org hopes to have reached its goal of selling 100,000 sample boxes.
