Awaken 2005 Roswell Church Seeks to Help a Troubled Generation

April 29, 2005 -- 274 Youth Church is a ministry of Hope Chapel Atlanta. Hope Chapel Atlanta has recently invested over $30,000 to renovate the youth church facility. 274 Youth Church seeks to reach a generation of young people with a message of hope, love, and acceptance. Currently in the United States the generation termed the Millennials represent the largest generation since the Baby Boomers, 71 million in total and 33 million who are currently teens. Each year, according to the U.S. Center for Disease Control, approximately three million cases of sexually transmitted diseases occur among teenagers and approximately one million teenagers become pregnant. Nearly one in five (19 percent) high-school students reported that they had thought seriously about killing themselves within the last 12 months, and about one in eleven (9 percent) reported actually attempting suicide. 274 Youth Church seeks to provide answers in a world full of questions and to provide assistance to families in crisis. According to Dr. John Diggs, M.D., "Tonight 40% of American children will go to sleep in fatherless homes." According to a study in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, parents spend 40% less time with their children today than a generation ago. The rise of homes and families in crisis in our community seems almost insurmountable.

Young people in our community need our help. 274 Youth Church and Hope Chapel Atlanta have answered the call and are seeking to make a difference one child, one parent, one family, and one community at a time.

274 Youth Church is seeking to reach out to a troubled generation through the free community-wide event, Awaken, Saturday May 21, 2005 from 3-9 PM.

In the beginning, HOPE Chapel Atlanta met in a living room with 20 people who banded together to seek the purposes of God in launching a new church in the North Atlanta Area. During it's second year HOPE met in a middle school gymnasium in Alpharetta, GA, and had grown to a core group of 50 people. A year later, HOPE relocated to Roswell, GA and took over an abandoned theater. HOPE Chapel Atlanta continues to grow with its congregation now rising to nearly 200 members in only its fifth year of existence.
