Three Northern Illinois Breed Rescues Host Fundraiser to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a Bark Fiesta de los Perros
April 28, 2005 -- Although there are many breed rescues and shelters across Illinois, ISR, Midwest, and THORR all share something in common; they train at B.C. Dog Training, located in Mundelein, IL. Informal meetings among rescuers frequently occur at the training hall and it was an easy progression to work together to help the dogs. All three breed rescues work with specific breeds, and help displaced dogs that end up in shelters find responsible, loving homes. Dogs that come into rescue are spayed/neutered, micro chipped, fully vaccinated; heartworm tested and placed on preventative, and are often treated for medical conditions that stem from abuse and/or neglect. Each rescue shares the common goal of attempting to educate the public about responsible pet ownership and their chosen breed, and reduce the number of unwanted, abused/neglected dogs who would otherwise be euthanized.
The cost of caring for each dog depends on age and condition when entering into rescue. Even with the help of veterinarians who work with rescue, the cost, quite simply, can run into the hundreds and thousands, depending on the individual dog. "Not only will Fiesta de los Perros help raise funds to reduce costs of exorbitant veterinary bills, it allows us the opportunity to educate people about our breeds as well as helping us find future volunteers and fosters, who are always much needed for shelter-less shelters" said Georgeanne Gundlach with Midwest Rescue. "Fiesta de los Perros gives people the opportunity to come out and help rescue and enjoy a fun night out," said Cathie Sabin of B.C. Dog Training, who works closely with all three rescues. Port of Blarney, who is working with the rescues to host the event, has a full dinner menu, for those wanting to enjoy dinner before the festivities begin.
Fiesta de los Perros, a fundraising event celebrating Cinco de Mayo, will be held Saturday, May 7, 2005 at Port of Blarney, located at 27843 West Grass Lake Road, Antioch, IL. Festivities begin at 7:00 p.m., and will include a DJ, silent auctions, a 50/50 and other raffles. Pictures of adoptable dogs will be displayed, as well as information about the breeds, and rescue representatives will be present to answer questions. Admission is $5 at the door and helps to continue the work of helping dogs in need. Proceeds from this event will benefit Illinois Shorthair Rescue, Midwest Rescue, and True Hearts of Rottweiler Rescue.
