Brandon Humane Society Elects New Board Anticipates Busy Year
New President Sandra Wray and Vice President Rick Dillabough say they anticipate a busy year of growth and new initiatives. The board has already tackled its first project -the Brandon Humane Society's newly updated constitution was ratified at a special meeting of the membership on April 26.
Another goal for 2005, says Ms Wray, is to plan a major new fundraiser to supplement the extremely popular Wag-a-Tail Walkathon held every fall. And the board wants to do more public education on animal welfare issues.
Ms Wray would also like to find a fitting way to recognize the 60th anniversary of the Brandon Humane Society next year. In 1946, Eleanor Kidd founded the Brandon SPCA in the riverbank area where Eleanor Kidd Gardens are now located.
"Many people who visit the Gardens don't realize that Eleanor Kidd made an incredible contribution to animal welfare in this city," said Ms. Wray. "Without her, the shelter as we know it would not exist today. So our new board is looking forward to continuing her legacy of speaking for those who can't speak for themselves."
