Reluctant to Read Happy to Write
May 21, 2005 -- The Reading Tub, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to promoting children's and family literacy. The author showcase includes a short biography about the writer, as well as an in-depth interview. "Our goal with the Author Showcase is to introduce new authors and authors with new books. Working with Max seemed a natural partnership, as there are lots of families and teachers working with reluctant readers," says Terry Doherty, The Reading Tub, Inc.'s president. Visitors can read an in-depth interview with Max on the Reading Tub Web site. In addition to talking about his books, Max shares some thoughts about why he is a reluctant reader, as well as why it's important to help kids develop their reading skills. In 2002, Max stopped to look at the reasons why he disliked reading and complemented his personal research by talking in schools with kids. Max has taken what he learned to create an adventure book series for reluctant readers. In just two years, he has published seven books. All of his books are written for audiences aged 8 to 12, the so-called Tweeners. "My books help reluctant readers get interested in reading, and at the same time, offer the Tweeners-who aren't kids anymore, but aren't adults yet either-lessons in life."
If you ask Max, he will tell you he never liked to read as a child. "I grew up in a family of seven children, so it was easy for things to be missed." He was always a "visual guy," hanging out at the studio with his father, who produced great films. That passion carried over into his career, and Max built his own video production company.
When Max decided to start writing books, he knew that he wanted to create action-packed adventures that would interest kids and keep them reading into the next chapter. "My books are larger in size with larger type. I avoid big blocks of words. My sentences are shorter, I don't dwell on boring details, and there is a lot of dialogue. Readers will also find humor along with heart-pounding action. They tell me that reading one of my books is like being in an exciting or scary movie...but its good scary, not horror or anything like that."
To date, there are seven published titles in the series, with two more books set for release this fall. You can link to excerpts from Max's books on the Reading Tub Web site. Go to http://www.thereadingtub.com/files/interviews/author_max_eliot_anderson.html
It is easy for visitors to find writers featured in the Reading Tub's Author Showcase. There are direct links in the site's navigation to the interview and author profile. These links remain active for 90 days. An archives of previous authors is available on the Featured Authors Archive page. http://www.thereadingtub.com/featured_authors_archive.html
