Institute for Financial Literacy Waives Credit Counseling Fees for Hurricane Victims
The Institute for Financial Literacy announced today that it will offer the credit counseling and debtor education mandated by the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 (BAPCPA) free of charge to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
"There is no doubt that the effects of Hurricane Katrina are physically, emotionally and economically devastating," said Leslie Linfield, Esq., Executive Director of the Institute. "Many victims of the hurricane will be forced to seek bankruptcy protection. The Institute for Financial Literacy is ready to help these people by making sure that counseling and education are not obstacles to relief."
The Institute for Financial Literacy is a non-profit organization whose mission is to make effective
financial literacy education available to all American adults. The Institute accomplishes its mission by developing
financial literacy education programs, partnering with non-profit, educational and governmental organizations to integrate these programs into their existing services, and publishing the National Standards in Adult Financial Literacy Education. The Institute is currently a pending applicant with the Executive Office of the United States Trustees as a provider of both the credit counseling and debtor education mandated by BAPCPA.
