The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) (www.adl.org) today called the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States, historic and a milestone in the history of the nation.
Glen S. Lewy, ADL National Chair, and Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director issued the following statement:
We congratulate President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden on their inauguration and wish them well as they usher in a new era for the United States of America. We admire the
inspiring words of President Obama'ss Inaugural Address.
We particularly welcome his important comments on the ability to secure our country from terrorism while upholding Constitutional law, as well as his admonition to those who seek to harm
America that he and his administration will never waver in the defense of the nation.
The inauguration of the nation'ss first African-American president is a true milestone in our history and it is, in one sense, a realization of the dream. And yet the struggle to rise
above hatred, prejudice and bigotry continues. We join with President Obama in his hopes that 'sthe old hatreds shall someday pass's and that America will play a role in ushering in a new
era of peace.
The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world'ss leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
