The Deaf Service Center of Palm Beach County, Inc. announced the election of Lisa Bankert to its board of directors.
Ms. Bankert is Director of Public Relations and Marketing for the Lake Worth Playhouse, a 56-year-old non-profit community theatre in downtown Lake Worth, Florida, where she has worked on
staff for the past 10 months and in a volunteer capacity for the previous three years. Her career experience includes positions in corporate communications and marketing, performing arts,
literary arts, and the motion picture industry. She began her career in professional theatre in the Washington DC area before moving to New York City and then Hollywood to work as a
casting director and script consultant for independent and studio films, including Paramount Pictures, Miramax Films, Universal Pictures and Neo Art 's38; Logic. Ms. Bankert has extensive
corporate communications and marketing experience with Fortune 500 companies, including Host Marriott Corporation in Bethesda, Maryland and America Online, Inc. in Dulles, Virginia.
She is the founder/president and senior editor of Pinestein Press, a small-press publishing company that produces literary and learning materials for preschool and school-age children;
and she writes and edits learning materials for educational publishers throughout the U.S. Ms. Bankert is a longstanding member of the Society of Children'ss Book Writers 's38;
Illustrators and a former volunteer with Palm Beach County'ss Adult Literacy Project.
Ms. Bankert studied radio/television/film (RTVF) for two years at the University of Maryland, before earning a bachelor'ss degree in arts sciences from the Catholic University of America
in Washington, D.C.
The election of Ms. Bankert to the Deaf Service Center'ss board brings the total number of directors to nine. The board is chaired by Ms. Laura Newstead, Vice President of Branch
Operations at Employers, an insurance group, and vice chaired by Mr. Peter Elwell, Town Manager of Palm Beach.
About the Deaf Service Center of Palm Beach County
Established in 1984, the Deaf Service Center of Palm Beach County is the only local agency devoted exclusively to meeting the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing children and adults. The
agency provides information, services, products and support for individuals with hearing loss to assist them in achieving independence through communication access. On a weekly basis, the
agency responds to an average of 500 questions about hearing loss, passes out approximately 60 free telephones specially designed for the hearing impaired, trains or speaks before
approximately 200 people, and helps approximately one dozen individuals facing personal problems or concerns caused by hearing loss. The Deaf Service Center of Palm Beach County is a Town
of Palm Beach United Way partner agency and is funded by the Board of County Commissioners.
About the Hearing Wellness Center
Established in 1999, the Hearing Wellness Center is the audiology services branch of the Deaf Service Center and a United Way partner agency. The Center offers comprehensive hearing
evaluations free of charge to the public. Evaluation results are used to determine the best course of treatment for hearing disabilities. The Center provides a full line of hearing aid
options from entry-level digital to high-end digital hearing aids and sees more than 60 individuals each week. The Center'ss audiologists are licensed in the State of Florida and do not
receive commission.
The Deaf Service Center of Palm Beach County has offices and Hearing Wellness Center locations in West Palm Beach and Delray Beach. Both centers are open to the public, by appointment,
Monday through Friday.
