Gary Hubbell Presents Benchmarking Workshop to Willamette Valley Development...

At a time when donors, CEOs and board members of nonprofit organizations are calling for evidence of efficiency and accountability in fundraising, more organizations are adopting benchmarking to track and report their fundraising results, according to Hubbell. He began the workshop with an across-the-board look at the benchmarking programs of major healthcare, education and nonprofit associations which individual organizations can draw on for the purpose of comparing their fundraising results with that of peer organizations. He led participants through the process of designing and developing benchmarking plans for their own organizations, and noted the key performance indicators to benchmark: net returns, cost to raise a dollar and ROI (return on investment). He then explored four alternative approaches to benchmarking, and cited criteria to help in selecting benchmarking partners.

The workshop was capped off with a review of how the data mined from benchmarking can be applied to future fundraising efforts, and a list of the lessons learned by other organizations from benchmarking.

Hubbell is an active author, speaker and researcher. His first book, Forces of Change: The Coming Challenges in Hospital Philanthropy (Association of Healthcare Philanthropy), was published in 2005. With co-author Mary Reinders, he published his second book, Lessons from Benchmarking: Fast-Forwarding the Maturity of the Fundraising Operation in 2007. Both books are available at www.Amazon.com and through the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy (www.ahp.org).
